ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia--The Ethiopian government yesterday closed the U.S. consulate in Eritrea province, and four other U.S. facilities in Ethiopia, expelling over 300 Americans from the country.

Continued American presence would contradict the goals of the Ethiopian socialist revolution and its non-aligned foreign policy, government officials announced.

Sources in Addis Ababa speculate that the action by the two-year-old leftist military government signals a move away from the West.

The Carter administration recently halted a promised $6 million in military aid because it charged the military government with violating human rights.
