Singer Cancels

Isaac Bashevis Singer, recent winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, will not appear here next week because his doctor told him to cancel all appointments for the next three weeks, Ruben G. Perlmutter '79, chairman of the Harvard-Radcliffe Hillel Society, said yesterday.

The author's secretary called Hillel yesterday morning and said Singer was overcommitted during his recovery from an operation last spring. That illness forced Singer to cancel an appearance here scheduled for last April.

Persons who have already bought tickets can obtain refunds at the Hillel office, 1 Bryant St., or at Sanders Theater on Oct. 31, the night Singer was scheduled to read some of his stories and answer questions.

Perlmutter said the author could not be reached yesterday, but added "He'll be coming in the spring if he is physically capable."
