Women's Swim Captains Named

By Daniel Gil

In a slight departure from tradition, the women's swim team picked a sophomore star and a junior, who has not been a headline-grabber, as captains for next year.

Maura Costin, a Massachusetts state high school champion who was slowed by a shoulder injury this year, and Claire Goodman, a Mather House resident who specializes in the backstroke, were elected at the team's banquet.

Coach Stephanie Walsh said yesterday she felt the two new captains would keep her in close touch with her swimmers.

'Freesome Foursome'

The "freesome foursome" of Liz Kelly, Laurie Downey, Jane Fayer and Sherry Lubbers were awarded medals for 13 all-American swims which they recorded at the Nationals. All four were all-American in the 200-, 400-, and 800- yd. freestyle relays. In addition, Kelly and Downey racked up four individual medals each and Fayer received two.
