Coles Honored

Dr. Robert M. Coles '51, professor of Psychiatry and Medical Humanities, will deliver the commencement address at Knox College and receive an honorary degree in ceremonies at the Illinois school on June 10.

Coles, who last semester taught Social Sciences 33, "Moral and Social Inquiry," is the author of a Pulitzer-Prixe-winning series of books entitled "Children of Crisis." The series grew out of Coles' study of the effects of segregation of Southern children.

Coles has also published works on the children of migrant workers, Appalachian mountain families and sharecroppers. His recent works include "Eskimos, Chicanos and Indians" and "Privileged Ones: The Well-Off and the Rich in America."

Knox College, founded in 1837 and located in Galesburg, Ill., is a private, coeducation, liberal arts college. Knox presented its first honorary degree in 1860 to Abraham Lincoln.

Coles has not yet decided on the subject of his address, he said yesterday. "I have given many commencement speeches and received many honorary awards. This is nothing unusual, but I will definitely be there," he added.
