Former Student Stabbed to Death In Washington

Cynthia Herbig, a former member of the Class of '79, was murdered in a parking lot in downtown Washington D.C. last week.

Herbig was found with stab wounds in the chest and abdomen at 4 a.m. on January 17, and died in the emergency room of the George Washington Hospital a little more than an hour later.

Police said they do not know of any motive for the murder, and do not have any suspects.

Herbig, a former Mather House resident, left Harvard during Thanksgiving of her sophomore year. At the time of her death she was living and working in Washington.

Herbig grew up in Missoula, Mont., and graduated third in her class from Hellgate High School, where she served on student government for three years and was a member of the National Honor Society.

She was also an accomplished cellist, and a member of the All-State Orchestra who had also performed with the Missoula Civic Symphony.

She was buried in Missoula on Monday afternoon.
