MBTA Cuts Red Line Runs

Night trains will run less frequently on the Red Line for the next three months because of subway construction, a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) public relations official, said yesterday.

Between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m., every other train on the Red Line will be cut. The cutbacks, which began Monday, will continue until April 1.

The reduction in subway traffic will prevent freshly laid cement near the Harvard Square station from crumbling.

The MBTA has received no complaints about the cutbacks, the spokesman said.

Harvard students questioned yesterday said the new schedule will probably not affect them.

Getting Together

The MBTA plans to complete construction on the Harvard Square subway station within a year. The extension of the Red Line to Alewife Parkway will not open until late 1982 or 1983.
