Doctors Appeal Dismissal By BWH Panel

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The two Harvard-affiliated doctors convicted of rape last June have filed appeals with Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) challenging the hospital's recent decision to dismiss them from the staff.

Dr. Arif Hussain and Dr. Eugene Sherry were placed on an unpaid leave of absence following their conviction three months ago, but the hospital's excutive committee decided not to dismiss them until the appeal of the rape charge was decided.

A little more than a week ago the committee reversed that decision and informed the doctors they had been released from the hospital staff.

Unjustified

In appealing their dismissal, the doctors contended that there had been no change in their status justifying the release and accused the hospital of responding to public pressure.

Scott Harshbarger, Sherry's attorney, said yesterday his client has requested a public hearing on his dismissal.

In appealing their discharge, both doctors will appear before a panel of physicians selected by the executive committee.
