TORONTO, Ontario--Several female students at the University of Toronto last month offered their services to a predominantly male clientele as part of a "slave section" fundraiser: the campus tri-weekly newspaper. The Varsity, reported recently.

Although an suction speaker stressed that the women were all volunteers and not obligated to do anything they found offensive, the event drew sexual remarks from the audience. Moreover, the woman whose plastic G-string was presented with her by the auctioneer received the top had of $27.

But several of the "slaves" interviewed by The Varsity denied that there was anything improper in the event, which drew criticism from some feminist and religious group. The women stressed that the auction was planned as a joke and a creative way to raise money.
