Salvaging Food

NEW HAVEN, Conn.--Yale dinning halls last week donated salvageable food from three of their kitchens to needy people in New Haven when the school closed for spring break.

Dining hall officials agreed last month to begin the program with the New Haven Food Salvage Project on a trial basis. The project, a coalition of 18 local groups which also collects food from restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores, will distribute the food to local emergency feeding agencies. The Yale Daily News reported last week.

Project coordinator Megan Gould, Yale class of 1980, said Yale would be the first university to participate in such a food bank program.
