Netwomen Win, Down Penn, 7-2

A week ago, the Harvard women's tennis team stumbled back to Cambridge after a 2-4 spring break tour of the South. But a routine 7-2 Saturday afternoon win over Penn helped the netwomen regain their footing, giving them a 1-0 Ivy League record and bringing the overall mark to 3-4.

"It was basically a boring match. We were favored, and we won," Coach Don Usher said later.

Only freshman Debbie Kaufman at fourth singles and the Nina Van Dyke-Susan Morgenstein tandem at third doubles had trouble handling the Quakers. However, an early-season knee injury kept Kaufman out of action during most of the southern excursion, and Van Dyke and Morgenstein are usually "B" team players.

Number-two player Erica Schulman dropped the opening set in her win over Quaker Janis Gold but the rest of the Crimson squad ably dispatched the competition in straight sets.

The netwomen continue their run at the Ivy League title today in an afternoon match with Dartmouth at Palmer Dixon.
