To the Editors of The Crimson:
It was with considerable surprise that I read G. Robert Strauss unfortunetly article in The Harvard Crimson explaining how I "exploited Harvard's technical mistake" and so cost Harvard's wrestling team the Ivy crown.
The facts are these First, Andy McNerncy weighted in at Cornell to wrestle in the 150th lb class. That committed him to wrestling at the same weight the following day at Columbia but instead he wrestled at 142 lbs. That is cheating. I fail to see the "technical mistake" (despite the use of the word "technical" five times in Strauss" article) though I must Confess that Harvard's coach has made other similar mistakes in the past which I should be delighted to chronicle, if challenged.
I was also interested to read of my own "ruthlessness"--apparently the violator is less ruthless than the one who reports him. May I pointout simply that Harvard's loss was not Cornell's gain--Columbia won the Ivy title and they deserved to.
May 4 suggest that Sissela Bok's excellent book be made required reading in Cambridge for certain selection members of the Harvard Athletic Department ad--why not?--even for G. Robert Strauss. Andy Noel Cornell Wrestling Coach
