W. Squash Nips Brown

Although the Harvard women's squash team made its season-opening trip to Brown without two of its top players, the squad succeeded in nabbing a 6-3 victory last night.

Diana Edge, who normally plays in the number one spot for the Crimson, and Kate Dunham (number five) both stayed behind in Cambridge while the rest of the racquetwomen took on the Bruins.

"It was a little closer than we would have liked, but we came through," said Co-Captain Ingrid Boyum. "We were strong up at the top."

Each of Harvard's top four yesterday--Boyum, Lucy Miller, Marty Winnick and Sheila Morrissey--posted 3-0 victories. The squad's other two triumphs were notched by Liz Reynolds (in the number six slot) and Liz Simmons (number eight).

"Their team was pretty solid," Boyum noted. "They could have played their order backward and it wouldn't have mattered--they were pretty consistent up the middle."

But pretty consistent wasn't good enough to stop the talented--although somewhat depleted--Crimson squad. Stiffer competition is in store for the racquetwomen Monday, however, when dangerous Trinity comes to town.

Prior to that key matchup, the team will splinter this weekend for some individual tuneups: Harvard's top three players will journey to the Princeton Invitationals, while the next nine on the roster will face Bowdoin.
