To the Editors of The Crimson:

We would like to correct a glaring error and a disturbing omission in your article (Feb. 24) on the Third Annual W.E.B. DuBois Graduate Colloquium, sponsored by the W.E.B. DuBois Graduate Society and The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Our audience was far larger than you indicate: in fact, more than 400 were in attendance. Second, we were dismayed by your failure to mention Joseph R. Washington Jr. (Professor of Religion at the University of Pennsylvania and author of numerous works, including Black Religion, The Politics of God, and Marriage in Black and White). With less than 24 hours' notice, he filled the gap on the afternoon panel left by Glenn Loury's failure to appear due to illness. Washington, radically opposed to Loury, emphasized the significant differences between Black and white intellectuals by deploying a socio-ethical analysis.

The colloquium was a great success, and we thank you for covering what was indeed an important event for the Harvard community. Bryan R. Washington   W.E.B. DuBois Graduate Society   Ellen L. Fox   Student Affairs Officer   Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
