Rutgers Spanks Spikers

The Harvard men's volleyball squad fell to Rutgers University in straight games yesterday in Newark, N.J., for the second time in a week.

Trying to avenge the loss they suffered against the Scarlet Knights in last week's tournament at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, the spikers--now 1-4 overall--couldn't handle the experienced Rutgers team, falling, 15-7, 15-1, and 15-8.

"We came out flat today, and it showed," Harvard Co-Captain Russell Riopelle said. Although Rutgers is one of the better volleyball squads on the East Coast, it nevertheless didn't play as well as it did in last week's victory over the Crimson. "They didn't look that inspired. We just made a lot of mental errors," Riopelle said.

The Harvard team finishes its two-match stint in the Garden State today when it travels to Princeton to take on the Tigers. "Princeton has a good team," Riopelle said, "but we have a good chance. We'll be more inspired."
