Sailors 4th

The Harvard varsity sailing team finished fourth in a field of 18 at the 56th Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup over the weekend on the Charles River.

On the first day of competition, the Crimson captured three first place finishes out of 18 races. In the A lark divison, Harvard's Gordon Burnes and Beth Pryor combined for first place in the fourth race.

Burnes later teamed up with Petra Schumann to take first in the eight race. In the B divison, Harvard's Peter Wagner and Jeff Kurland placed first in the sixth race.

At the end of the day, the sailors had tallied 123 points, and stood in fifth place.

The second day of competition featured strong winds, as six boats capsized during a B divison race. In the B divison, John Pernick sailed the last five races for the Crimson, and won the last race of the day.

Burnes finished fourth (120 points) in the A divison. Wagner and Kurland tallied 132 points.

The Crimson's 252 total points placed the sailors behind Boston University (181), Navy (205) and Stanford (249).
