Red Sox Stun Yankees, 10-9

A three-run ninth inning helped the Boston Red Sox down the New York Yankees, 10-9, last night in New York. The victory pushed the Sox five-and-a-half games ahead of the Yankees in the race for the American League East title.

With the score 9-8 in favor of the Yankees in the ninth inning, pinch hitter Spike Owen drove in two runs, highlighting the Boston comeback. Dennis Lamp picked up the victory for the Sox. Lee Smith got the save.

The Sox trailed 9-5 in the seventh inning, but closed the gap to 9-7 by the top half of the ninth.
