Ruggers Drop GMU

The Harvard men's rugby club continued its winning ways with a 33-6 victory over George Mason yesterday at Soldiers Field in front of 100 spectators.

The Crimson (5-2 overall) started playing against the wind, but still amassed a 14-6 lead by halftime, due in part to stellar play by Andy Pinkerton, a freshman from Canada.

"Pinkerton played a really good game," Captain Scott Hilinski said. "He came in as a freshman and has been contributing right away."

In the second half, Harvard kept George Mason scoreless and racked up 19 points to put the game away. Chris Crisera, Bruce Miller, and Hilinski each scored trys, while the back row of Bill Kessler, Sorn Oberg, and Eric Chehab controlled the ball and facilitated the job of the centers.

Harvard's next game will be against Amherst, a league game which was postponed Saturday because of poor field conditions. Depending on when the Amherst game is played, the Crimson will face one of its hardest matches of the season against UCal-Berkeley, which has won seven of the past 11 national championships.
