1. EIGHT of 12 houses reserve 25 percent of incoming space for random assignment.
2. LOTTERY proceeds normally. Rooming groups submit three house choices and are assigned lottery numbers.

4. FRESHMEN are assigned as usual by choice and lottery to all houses until four non-participating houses fill up, and others are 75 percent filled.
5. REMAINING students. totalling approximately 17 to 25 percent of the class, are randomly assigned to remaining spaces in at least eight houses.
Previously, 10 to 15 percent of freshmen have been randomly assigned to spaces in remaining houses when their choices have been filled.
Adams, Eliot, Lowell and Winthrop Houses are not participating in the plan.
