Three Robbed At MIT

Three people were held at gunpoint on the MIT campus on Wednesday night, the campus newspaper reported.

Yifang Gong, a student at MIT, and his wife were walking near the school's Nuclear Reactor Laboratory when they were attacked by three men at approximately 9:10 p.m.

After being threatened at gun point, Gong gave the assailants his money, jacket and watch.

The assailants then attacked the third victim, robbing him of his backpack and wallet, which contained credit cards and $70 cash. The third victim had witnessed the first robbery, according to Cambridge Police Department spokesperson Frank T. Pasquarello.

The three assailants were described as Black men in their early twenties, between six feet and six feet four inches tall. Two were wearing sweatshirts or dark loose-fitting clothes, and the third wore a yellow jacket, Pasquarello said.

No one was injured in either attack, There are no identified suspects.

In an interview with the Crimson, Gong said the streets where are the incident occurred are poorly lit, making walking home at night very dangerous. He said this is especially important for students, who are often forced to walk the streets late at night.

"The city should have more lamps," Gong said. "Many students pass around the area every day, [usually] very late."
