Two trucks owned by a fencing contractor working for Harvard were set ablaze by vandals early yesterday morning, according to Harvard Police.
The trucks were discovered at approximately 5 a.m. by a Harvard Police officer on routine patrol near McCurdy Track, between Harvard Stadium and the Indoor Track and Tennis facility.
According to police accounts, a dump truck owned by the Meade-McGrath Fence Co., Inc. was hot-wired and driven through a fence dividing the track from the access road, then parked and torched. The second truck, a crane flatbed, was also smoldering when the officer arrived on the scene.
The Boston Fire Department was then called in to extinguish the flames.
The trucks as well as other materials were left overnight by the track by Meade-McGrath, which is under contract with the University to build a performance-enhancing wind-screen for the track.
The incident is still under investigation by the Harvard Police, who say they have no suspects at this time. Tom McGrath of Meade-McGrath said he has noidea who committed the acts of vandalism or why.McGrath said he knows of no employee past orpresent who would have cause for beingdisgruntled, though in his opinion the destructionof his property and the University's appeared tobe premeditated. Athletic Director Bill Cleary could not bereached for comment yesterday
