HARVARD GETS TO CHEER for many famous alumni in the public eye. Paul E. Wylie '91, who won the silver medal in men's figure skating last week, is one of them. Presidents, authors, musicians, philosophers, doctors and lawyers abound. But students don't often get to cheer our alma mater to the gold--or close to the gold.

Who ever said Harvard is for overly academic wimps? Put him or her face-to-face with the three members of the United States hockey team--Ted Donato '91, Ted Drury '93-94, C. J. Young '91--who played for Harvard, and we bet they won't bad-mouth the efforts of student-athletes. Team U.S.A. didn't win a medal, but they got close and hurt more that a few people in the process.

PAUL WYLIE WAS billed by the sometimes cheesy CBS coverage as the "overachiever" from Cambridge. We're not sure if that's a compliment, but we'll take it as one.

While we don't want to detract from the merits of intellectual pursuits, we'd like to cheer for Harvard sports stars in the Olympics more often. Maybe Harvard Dining Services should order more Wheaties.
