Fraternity Profile

Seven fraternities, new and old, on campus

. Eta Sigma Chi, the largest with 45 members, was reestablished in 1989. It has national chapter status.

. Sigma Alpha Mu, originally a Jewish fraternity, has 28 members and national chapter status. It was started at Harvard in 1916, closed its doors in 1936, reestablished in 1989, and given official chapter status last year.

. Delta Kappa Epsilon is the newest frat, with 10 members. Closed at Harvard in 1891, it was restarted last year and given national chapter status last summer.

. Sigma Phi Epsilon, started last year and still seeking national recognition has 20 members.

. Zeta Psi, a revival from the 19th century (1852-1892), recently formed in 1985, with more than 30 members. It has national chapter status.

. Alpha Phi Alpha, has 21 members at Harvard, included in Cambridge/Medford chapter in 1989. It has national chapter status.

. Kappa Alpha Psi, which has about eight members at Harvard, started on campus in 1982. It has national chapter status.
