Text of News Release From The Concerned Christians at Harvard

A number of disturbing charges have recently come to light regarding financial impropriety on the part of the Rev. Gomes. We look to the University administration to conduct a full and fair investigation into the truth of the charges, as a matter of concern to the entire University community.

Nonetheless, we continue to believe that the integrity of the Rev. Gomes' spiritual and moral leadership should be the central theme in evaluating his ability to serve as Christian minister to the Harvard community. Though we hope that the University administration will treat these new charges with the seriousness that an impartial review of the evidence may show they deserve, the focus of our concern is rather Mr. Gomes' evident misuse of his spiritual office for private ends than any similar abuse of temporal authority of which he may or may not be found culpable.
