HUPD Nabs Credit Crook

The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) Monday arrested a man charged with extensive credit card fraud at Boston-area colleges.

Michael D. Ford, wanted on several counts of illegal use of credit cards, was picked up by Boston College campus police Monday after they recognized him from a HUPD photo.

The Boston College police handed Ford, a Somerville resident, over to HUPD, which had three warrants for his arrest. He was then taken to the Cambridge Police Department.

In total, Ford had eight outstanding default warrants and two direct indictments for credit card fraud and larceny, said HUPD Chief Paul E. Johnson. Johnson added that Ford was well-known throughout the Boston area.

"He's a professional," said Johnson. "He goes everywhere."

HUPD had disseminated Ford's photograph to numerous police departments in the area, Johnson said.

Ford is currently being held at Middlesex County Jail.
