13 Harvard Doctors Honored

A new book named 13 doctors at Harvard's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute among the finest physicians in the country.

The book, entitled The Best Doctors in America, presents a "highly selective" list of approximately 3850 physicians in more than 350 medical specialties in the nation, according to an institute news release.

The Dana-Farber Institute is a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School dedicated to the research and treatment of cancer and related diseases.

"I'm honored," said Dr. Karen H. Antman, an associate professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and one of the doctors honored by the book. "My mother will be delighted. What else could anybody say?"

In addition to Antman the institute's recognized specialists are Drs. George P. Canellos, Emil Frei III, Marc B. Garnick, Jay R. Harris, Philip W. Kantoff, William D. Kaplan, Peter M. Mauch, Robert J. Mayer, Lee M. Nadler, Stephen E. Sallan and Howard J. Weinstein.

'Extremely Pleased'

"We are extremely pleased that members of our medical staff were chosen by their peers," said Institute President Christopher T. Walsh.

"They and their colleagues strive to provide the very best care and treatment for their patients and their families, and it is rewarding to know that their accomplishments, compassion and dedication are recognized," Walsh said.

All of the clinicians listed in the book both practice medicine and conduct research, Hallie Baron, an institute spokesperson said.

"The recognition is a tremendous boost of credibility and it validates the excellence at the Institute," Baron added.
