The Harvard women's tennis team iced its season by claiming sole possession of the Ivy League title with a 7-2 victory over Cornell on Saturday.
Although Cornell had not won an Ivy League game, team members were wary.
"We concentrated a lot," freshman Erika DeLone said. "We couldn't allow ourselves a letdown."
As it turned out, the Crimson was plenty focused. Cornell's Jen Kenas upset #5 Kendra Harris in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, and the #2 doubles team of Kenas and top singles player Judy Beckenbauch defeated Harvard's Kim Cooper and Eliza Parker, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, but that was all.
Erika DeLone, the 1992 ITCA Northeast Region Rookie of the Year, celebrated her award by thrashing Beckenbauch, 6-0, 6-0.
Neither DeLone nor Parker lost a singles match all season, a first since 1989 for the Crimson.
