Winthrop Welcomes Hansons

By Tazeen Ahmad

Nearly 100 people gathered in the Winthrop House junior common room last night to welcome the new house masters.

Then, Paul D. Hanson, professor in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and Cynthis Rosenberger, professor at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, oversaw the first all-house meeting in Winthrop this year.

Rosenberger said the wants to make Winthrop "a place which feels like a home." Hanson promised he would be "accessible to all members of the house."

The meeting was organized primarily to familiarize newly arrived sophomores with the house. But a number of juniors and seniors also turned out to see their new masters.

"Usually only sophomores attend this meeting but tonight we had a very large turnout of all the members of the house," said Senior Tutor Greg Mobley.

"The masters seem enthusiastic about being here," said Chip Harris '96. The previous masters were great but the Hansons bring new and different ideas to the house and it should be interesting to see what they do."
