Professors Speak to Alumni

Seven professors addressed more than 800 alumni last weekend about financial aid, information technology and the humanities as part of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences' (FAS) ongoing effort to raise their portion of the $2.1 billion University Capital Campaign.

The FAS is almost half way to its $965 million fundraising goal. Included in that aim is $200 million for scholarships, $41 million for technology and $21 million for the humanities.

Faculty members, including Kenan Professor of English Marjorie Garber and Assistant Professor of Computer Science Margo I. Seltzer, and administrators, including Dean of the College Harry R. Lewis '67, spoke on three panels, each covering one of the Campaign's three main topics.

"There is nothing more important to Harvard's future and well-being than the quality of the student body," Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid William R. Fitzsimmons '67 said during the conference.

Paul M. Weissman '52, chair of the Harvard College Fund, announced that the Harvard Class of '45 has raised nearly $19,000, more than any other alumni class.
