Saxophonist Mark C. Simon '99 and trumpet player Dionne A. Fraser '99 received the 1995 Malcolm Holmes Band Scholarships at the Dartmouth Football Concert October 27.
Named for Malcolm Holmes '28, director of the Harvard Band from 1943-54, the scholarships are given annually to new members of the band on the basis of financial need and merit.
"It was just really nice to get it," Fraser said. "I love the band. Everybody there is really fun."
Thomas G. Everett, director of bands, said the two recipients are "very popular, likable young people who have both contributed a great deal" and praised their hard work.
This is the first year the scholarship, the amount of which has not been publicly disclosed, has been divided between two students, Everett said.
He added that thanks to the increased financial support of band alumni, it will probably continue to be given to two students in the future.
