Sports Headline Sacrificed Sensitivity in the Name of Wit

I was deeply offended by a sports headline on Tuesday, October 3, reading "W. Soccer Crucifies Holy Cross, 3-1."

In an age of ever increasing appreciation for diversity and tolerance, the headline mocks the Christian faith, something which is still considered socially acceptable. Drawing parallels between an athletic victory over a Catholic college and the crucifixion of Christ demonstrates a great lack of respect for religious beliefs and marks further regression in building a society free of discrimination. Your publication possesses a great responsibility in being the daily newspaper of Harvard and Cambridge. Publishing a headline that flaunts such disregard for the beliefs of a religious group exhibits a failure to meet that responsibility.
