Adams House Burglar Nabs Laptop, Camera

By Radu Ban, CONTRIBUTING WRITER

Harvard police are still investigating a burglary that left four Adams House residents without a laptop, a camera, a pocketbook and a wallet early Sunday morning.

When Sarah E. Cohen '01, Michelle A. Groman '01, Jaqueline A. Mesnick '01 and Jane L. Risen '01, all residents of Adams H-32, went to bed on Saturday night, they left their common room door open.

The thief likely entered through the open door and stole the items while two people were in the suite, the students said.

"Two of us were sleeping," Risen said. "My roommate thought it was another roommate coming late. We did not really know until the morning that it was a burglar."

Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) spokesperson Peggy A. McNamara said the larceny is "technically under investigation," and could not provide further details about the incident.

"There was [an] extensive amount of private property taken," she said. After the incident, members of the HUPD warned students in the entryway to take precautions to prevent further burglaries.

Jakob E. Grose '01, who also lives in H-Entryway, said after the burglary was discovered "a policewoman told us to keep our doors closed."

Adams House has a history of burglaries. Last semester, a senior in A-Entryway found a burglar in his room disassembling his roommate's stereo.

HUPD apprehended two suspects in the incident.

This week's burglary was not the only unusual incident in Adams house on Sunday. According to McNamara, a fire alarm went off in Randolph Hall at 2:31 a.m.

Risen said a party in C-Entryway was using a smoke machine that may have set off the fire alarm.
