Heston Comes to HLS

Charlton Heston, Academy Award-winning actor and president of the National Rifle Association (NRA) will speak at Harvard Law School next Tuesday, the Harvard Law School Forum (HLSF) announced yesterday.

The HLSF will be sponsoring Heston's speech, entitled "Winning the Cultural War."

David V. Christopherson, a third-year law student and president of the Forum, said one of the reasons Heston was invited is because he is one of "a handful of conservatives" in Hollywood.

Heston has been a prominent advocate of the second amendment right to bear arms--a stand that has made him unpopular among Harvard's more liberal elements.

Christopherson said the announcement of Heston's visit has already sparked some heated discussion among law students.

"[Heston will] elicit some strong emotions--and I think that's good," Christopherson said.

The speech, which is free and open to the public, will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Ames Courtroom.
