Athlete of the Week: Tim Hill `99

When the Harvard men's basketball team snaps a 17- game losing streak spanning nine years against the Princeton Tigers, it is natural to ask, "How?"

Well, on this weekend one need not look far. Senior point guard Tim Hill is the reason.

Hill once again proved why he will go down as one of the greatest players ever to don a Harvard uniform. He showcased a stunning display of skills Friday and Saturday nights in one the greatest team performances in Harvard basketball history.

Hill began the weekend leading the Crimson against the Quakers and its star junior point guard Michael Jordan. Facing off against Jordan--perhaps the league's most talented player--Hill made a strong case for First Team All-Ivy honors.

Hill scored 17 points against MJ, but more impressively, he collected 10 assists against zero turnovers in the narrow 81-76 Crimson loss. His defense against Jordan was also solid, helping force nine turnovers by the junior standout.

But Hill's performance against Princeton in his home finale proved to be his crowning achievement.

He led all scorers with 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including six points in overtime to ice the 87-79 victory.

To go along with his scoring, Hill dished out four assists, with the last one marking the 571st of his career, moving him pass Tarik Campbell '94 into first place on the Harvard all-time assists list.

For the weekend, Hill's line reads as follows: 44 points, six rebounds, two steals, 14 assists and just one turnover in 82 minutes of action, earning him Ivy League Player of the Week honors.
