To the editors:

I am writing to clarify an unintentional omission in the profile of me ("Are Harvard Students Happy?", Feb. 3). The article states that on Friday evenings at Hillel, "although Conservative and Orthodox Jews pray separately, they join together in a Sabbath meal after the service." While this is true, there are in fact as many as five services geared toward undergraduates which meet at Hillel or around campus on the Sabbath eve.

In addition to the Orthodox and Conservative services, there is a Reform service each Friday night, as well as a monthly Reconstructionist service. We have also created a "Floating Learning Service," which meets once a month in one of the upperclass Houses and is designed to appeal to Jews of all backgrounds who wish to learn more about Sabbath prayer and observance. After all of these services, the entire community joins together in Hillel's dining hall for a communal Sabbath meal which is open to all undergraduates. MICHAEL A. KAY '01   Feb. 4, 1999

The writer is chair of Harvard-Radcliffe Hillel.
