Bischoff Claims N.E. Singlehanded Title

By Brian E. Fallon, Crimson Staff Writer

Last fall, Harvard junior Clay Bischoff sailed to an impressive fifth-place finish in the men’s singlehanded national competition.

This year, he is heading back to the championship and figures to fare even better.

Bischoff won the New England Singlehanded competition, held at Yale this past weekend. Senior Sean Doyle gave Harvard two top-three finishes in the ‘A’ Division by taking third place.

The New England race is the regional qualifier for the national championship, which is scheduled for November. Bischoff and Doyle will both move on by virtue of their showings at Yale.

Doyle placed tenth at nationals a year ago.

Harvard sophomore John Mulcahy also competed at New Englands last weekend and finished 12th in the 18-person field.

As a group, the Crimson is coming off one of the best seasons in program history last year. Harvard claimed the Leonard M. Fowle ’30 Trophy last summer as the top all-around sailing team in the country.
