Movie Blitz May Have Increased Applicants

Letter to the Editors

By Elias Reichel

To the editors:

One other reason for the recent surge in applications may be omnipresence of Harvard in the movies and television (News, “College Applications Set Record at 20,000”, Feb. 3). In the past year if you visited any video store you’d be faced with several movies based at Harvard (Harvard Man, How High, Legally Blonde, etc.) Television is doing a good job as well with many more mentions of Harvard than any other institution. Pre-college students appear to be heavily inundated with Harvard propaganda, with the common story line that any one can get in with a little finesse.
