Two things to remember when you carry pepper spray

By Kevin Mcdonough

The recent article about pepper spray (News, “Students Carry Mace Illegally,” Oct. 18) is very good, but leaves out two salient points:

First, pepper spray is considered to be ammunition in Mass and a first offense for possession is good for up to 2 1/2 years in jail.  Students need to be aware of this severe consequence.

Secondly, because pepper spray is ammunition, it’s illegal to possess it on school property, including a college campus, without explicit approval.
