Student Robbed Near Dunster

A female Harvard graduate student was robbed late Monday afternoon near Dunster House.

The victim, whose name has not been released, told police that she was attacked at the corner of Banks and Cowperthwaite streets after walking by two males standing in front of a convenience store.

According to a community advisory released by the Harvard University Police Department (HUPD), the victim reported that the suspects struck her on the head several times. After she fell to the ground, the suspects took her wallet and fled the area.

The advisory stated that the victim was not injured, and according to HUPD spokesman Steven G. Catalano, she refused medical treatment. Catalano declined to release any more information about the victim.

According to the advisory, the victim was unable to provide a detailed description of the suspects.

Because the incident did not occur on Harvard University property, it is currently being investigated by the Cambridge Police Department (CPD).

According to CPD spokesman Frank T. Pasquarello, there were no developments in the investigation as of yesterday afternoon.

Dunster resident Magdey A. Abdallah ’07 says that he still feels safe walking outside his dorm at night.

“Although you hear about isolated incidents like this once in a while, I haven’t really noticed a trend,” Abdallah said.

“I think students feel very safe in Dunster, and the Masters have begun locking all the gates around the dorm this year,” said resident tutor Katie S. Blackburn. “Because this is a city and because everybody knows that college students carry valuable things like iPods, stuff like this will happen. This incident is scary, but luckily, it is also abnormal.”
