Young Jeezy’s new video, “Go Getta,” is sweeping the nation in vivid grayscale. The song, like many other Young Jeezy tracks, touts the street lifestyle—it’s for those who “trap all day” and “play all night.” The hook? R. Kelly’s mellifluous voice on the chorus, not to mention the video’s blatant disregard of color.
The video opens with Jeezy leaving what appears to be a run of the mill, middle-class household, only to get into what is clearly not a run of the mill Lamborghini. Jeezy dons gigantic sunglasses that serve to make his bald head look extra conical and ridiculous. Jeezy and his “boy Kells” then proceed to pose for the camera while a woman with a tarantula tattooed on her armpit moves her body voluptuously before the mural-covered, black and white wall.
Cut to scene two: Jeezy sitting on his black bed, with the camera alternating between straight shots and profiles of his face. Following Jeezy’s bedroom scene, set with scantily clad and well-oiled women, comes the most interesting sequence of the video. It opens with Jeezy and R. Kelly turning the corner into an aisle of a grocery store. Not just any grocery store, mind you, but a largely monochromatic one, where all the products on the shelves are spray-painted black. Now that’s just downright cool. Is this a “black market?” Unclear, but a real Go Getta doesn’t ask questions.
The rest of the video is littered with more half-naked video hoes, some over the top product placement, and a verse by R. Kelly further extolling the life of a trapper.
Kelly is the highlight of this shadowy video, with his extremely dramatic facial expressions and simple but repetitive dance moves. When he takes off his shades, you know Kells isn’t fucking around—he’s a real Go Getta.
