Parting Shot: The Unremarkable Remarkable

Standing on the right edge of the 18th fairway, I had 147 yards left to the green. An easy cut 6-iron put me 30 feet right of the tucked back pin. The downhill lag putt came up about two feet short, and I tapped in for my par.

Thirty minutes later, the scores had been tabbed, and our goal of qualifying for the NCAA championship finals had fallen just out of reach. I hadn’t known it at the time, but that two-foot putt on the 18th green had marked one of the most special moments of my time at Harvard: It signified the end of my collegiate golf career.

Tough Stretch Up Front Will Prime Crimson For Success

A 10-2 loss is always a tough pill to swallow, especially for the Harvard women’s hockey team.

Yes, the Crimson (6-2-2, 5-1-1 ECAC) was playing against No. 1 Boston College, but most would have expected Harvard—a preseason favorite to win the national title—to put up more of a fight against the best team in the country. Loaded with talent across the ice, the team entered its 2014-2015 campaign with a No. 3/4 national ranking. But just over a month into its season, the Crimson was forced to swallow its worst loss in almost two decades.

Women's Rugby Remembers Its Roots

This fall, women’s rugby became Harvard’s 42nd varsity sport. Just this past weekend, the team claimed its first-ever Ivy League Championship title.

It seems like quite the meteoric rise. A little over two months removed from its first varsity practice, the Crimson found itself rightfully situated at the top of the Ivy League. But this wasn’t exactly the “rags to riches” season it may, at first glance, appear to be. That wouldn’t do the story, or the team, justice. It’s not for lack of success—Harvard shut out undefeated and No. 1 seeded Dartmouth, 29-0, in the Ancient Eight finals—but rather because the team didn’t really start off rag. They started off Rad.
