Get Excited: Thanksgiving at Harvard

With classmates leaving campus en masse and holiday cheer leaving you homesick, staying on campus during Thanksgiving break may not seem like the most enticing option. But don’t fret—there are lots of ways to have fun during break that don't involve leaving the Boston area.

Volunteers from Harvard student organizations, along with the Boston Interfaith Campus Coalition, come together to pack meals Thanksgiving meals on Sunday afternoon in the SOCH. Twenty-four shifts of volunteers lent a hand on Sunday, with a goal of packing 50,000 Thanksgiving meals.

The Five Stages of Returning Home

The prospect of heading home for Thanksgiving is making us all giddy with excitement. The food, the friends, the relaxation, oh my! Here are five stages you may experience during your time at home; hopefully things won’t go any worse.

Ramifications of a Late Thanksgiving

Let’s face it—most of us have been looking forward to Thanksgiving since Columbus Day weekend, especially since we had class on Veteran’s Day. Unfortunately, we’ll be waiting a long time, because if Thanksgiving decides to come any later, we might be celebrating it during spring break.

How To Survive Until Thanksgiving? Embrace the Holiday Season Early.

While our Christmas countdown is going the whole year, we understand that, for some, mid-November might seem a bit early for Santa hats and holly. Well, guess what—it’s not. Here are some ways to enjoy pre-Thanksgiving November and embrace the season.

Duck Penises, Perfect Chins, and Cornell's Inferiority Complex

The quick and dirty about what's been going on around the Ancient Eight (and other schools too). While Harvard traverses the murky and scandalous waters of cheating and lying, Yale's biggest scandal of late concerns duck penises. Apparently people aren't too happy that the National Science Foundation has dropped a cool $384,949 so that Yale scientists can investigate "Sexual Conflict, Social Behaviour and the Evolution of Waterfowl Genitalia". What exactly are they going to do with all that money, you may be asking? Hopefully answer that pressing question of just how much duck penises shorten or lengthen depending on the time of year, the age of the duck, and its "social environment" (we'll leave it up to you to figure out what that means). Fascinating.

For Those on Campus, a Harvard Thanksgiving

For the hundreds of undergraduates who stayed on campus this Thanksgiving, the break offered an opportunity to gorge on four different flavors of pie, catch up on school work, and reflect on what matters most.

Four New Thanksgiving Traditions

Can you feel it? The leaves have turned, Yale has been publicly humiliated, and it is once again inappropriate to solicit candy from your neighbors. That’s right: it’s Thanksgiving! Lucky for you, Flyby’s got your back with some new traditions to spice up your holiday.

Thanksgiving is a mere two days away. Swayed by the holiday spirit, Flyby has compiled a list of options for making it to the airport in one piece, so you can get home for family, turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, etc.

Five Movies To Make You Glad You Aren't With Your Family For Thanksgiving

It may feel rather lonesome staying on campus while your roommates go home and revel in hedonistic feasting, but there's a silver lining to every isolated, stranded cloud. If you'd like to be reminded why a break from your family could be advantageous, we at Flyby think you should give these films a shot on Thursday night.

Thanksgiving Treats

Thanksgiving break this year includes one extra day off from classes, giving Harvard students more time to hang out with family, work on a thesis, shop, eat their weight in turkey, or just sleep.

The traditional Thanksgiving feast is given some Asian flair, as the entire meal is to be eaten with chopsticks.

Shop (and Eat!) 'til You Drop

Watching burly men throw around the ol' pigskin got you hungry? How about all those kitschy, glitter-filled floats from the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade? Instead of watching Thanksgiving Day football games or televised holiday events, head out into Harvard Square this Thursday if you're around campus during the break to see what local vendors are offering for the day.

Cab Sharing With UC Taxis

It's Thanksgiving break and most are headed home for some turkey and mashed potatoes. However, getting to the airport can be a hassle, especially if your plane leaves at 4 a.m. when taking the T isn't an option. If you're considering taking a cab, don't forget about UC Taxis, which can save you money by helping you find other Harvard students who need to get to Logan airport as well.
