BC Championship Athletes Face Alcohol Charges

•

When it comes to partying, Harvard is no match for its neighbors across the river. Four Boston College athletes were recently implicated in alcohol-related reckless driving that led to a Green Line collision this past weekend.

Among those involved in the accident are two defensemen and a goalie from BC’s 2010 national championship-winning men’s hockey team. Police say they discovered blood-smeared beer cans at the site of the accident and an unopened bottle of Rubinoff vodka inside the students’ Jeep. No casualties or critical injuries were reported.

According to the MBTA Transit police report, a Green Line trolley was heading toward a routine stop at roughly midnight on Sunday in Brighton when a black SUV with the BC students appeared in the train’s path. The operator of the trolley stated that he alerted the SUV, blaring the horn several times, but to no avail. The train’s emergency stop mechanism did not act fast enough to avoid colliding with the Jeep, thrusting the SUV back.

The report stated that several of the BC students emerged from the vehicle following the crash, seized “numerous items that appeared to have been alcoholic beverages,” and swiftly left the scene of the accident.

By the time police arrived, the Boston Fire Department and EMS personnel were extricating the remaining passengers from the vehicle.

The driver of the Jeep maintains that she was not intoxicated when the collision took place, citing an allergy to alcohol.

The Boston College Athletics office has yet to take disciplinary action against the students, given that no formal charges have been brought forth by police.
