Unless you have been living under a rock, you all know what a momentous weekend is in store for Americans across the country. No, we’re not talking about the Winter Olympics’ opening ceremony today — we’re actually choosing not to tune in given the serious lack of a Shane and Ilya bromance to root for (iykyk). And no, we’re most certainly not talking about the penultimate weekend before Valentine’s, where everyone tries to find a boo just so they don’t have to put themselves through Datamatch again. Been there, done that. We’re talking about Super Bowl Sunday, more commonly known as the Bad Bunny Halftime Show!

Even though El Conejo Málao has taken the world by storm (see: Spotify’s top global artist four times and counting), there are still a lucky few of you who do not know too much about the Drake “Drake Maye” Maye of the Latin music world. Yet.

Whether you are an ultra fan looking for validation in believing that BAILE INoLVIDABLE is the best song Mr. Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio has written, or a newbie looking for some detailed Sparknotes before Sunday’s game, you have come to the right place. Here is a list of our non-negotiable songs to prepare for the best weekend of your life (contingent on a Pats win, though).

1. DtMF

Move aside TGIF — there’s a better shorthand in town. DtMF is one of those songs that empaths simultaneously love and hate, given how emotionally wrecking it is. Think sentimental high school seniors making edits of their elementary school selves to Hannah Montana’s “I’ll Always Remember You” and times that feeling by un millón. That’s what it feels like to listen to this song full of pent-up regret at not having spent more time with the people we loved while they were here. Such a universal feeling, yet one that’s not talked about enough. Let it be known, though, that listening to this song on loop might have you on your merry way to the CAMHS booking page. Proceed with caution.

2. DÁKITI

We get it — most of Bad Bunny’s songs are fast and the conjugations may be a bit tricky. Most of all with DÁKITI and its obsession with preterite tense conjugations. Heck, even as a native Spanish speaker, Ava still doesn’t have a clue what tense to use and why. It’s simply a vibe check, so take it easy as you collect your bearings and sing along to this masterclass blend of reggaeton and house. Bonus points if you brush off the dust on those high school AP Spanish skills and log back into your Duolingo account! You never know what joys await you on the other side…it might be as simple as recognizing the tune at your next Grensday.

3. KETU TeCRÉ

If any of you are currently in a situationship, know that 1) we sympathize and 2) Benito does too. From friends to lovers to enemies, this rollercoaster of a ballad traces the arc of a failed relationship as beautifully as that nosy Nancy in Lamont who somehow knows everyone’s business (we’re talking blocking group drama, budding love triangles, and who got that coveted JP Morgan internship). As much as we are a bunch of chismosas here at flyby, Benito takes the cake with his attention to detail to the comings and goings of his disco obsessed ex. He’s like that one friend who treats Find My like prime time television (It’s me. I am that friend). Let’s just hope you won’t have to be singing this song come February 14th…

4. NO ME QUIERO CASAR

As if the song title wasn’t clear enough, Bad Bunny starts off strong with the line “2026 y yo sigo soltero.” So true king, so true. Another year with zero prospects in the books, hooray! While some of your peers from home may be getting engaged, you’re still here at the grand old age of 18 to 22 struggling to troubleshoot your Crimson Print. Make it make sense.

But don’t worry, there are many merits to being a single pringle. For one, you’ll have sooo much time on your hands to perfect your Spanish, maybe not by this Super Bowl, but hopefully by next! Treat studying the past perfect participle and its conjugations like studying for Chem 17/27 except with amino amigo acids. Better yet, log in to Anki and start matching song lyrics to their respective songs. Who says Bad Bunny won’t be on the MCAT or important for med school applications? It’s all part of the transformative learning experience… and the holistic admissions approach these medical schools supposedly have. That degree is better than a ring, lowkey.

5. El Apagón

This is a rare unicorn in Bad Bunny’s discography, and not for the reasons one would think. Somehow, “El Apagón” joins a select minority of Benito songs that don’t give off I-am-an-overeager-Facebook-mom-obsessed-with-capitalization. That said, this song truly is a wonderful tribute to Puerto Rico, and all that makes it special for Benito and more than three million Americans on the island. Talks of beautiful beaches and nostalgic spots has even the most New England-obsessed of us all looking at flights to San Juan for spreak to experience it for ourselves.

6. ACHO PR

This collaboration between Bad Bunny and three other prominent Latin artists has us foaming at the mouth for another halftime show à la Super Bowl LVI with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar. High hopes? Sure, but it doesn’t hurt to dream a little. Listening to this song on loop is the perfect serotonin boost to make you believe in group projects and the ability of everyone involved to actually pull their own weight in the end. Whether this means being in charge of buying wings for your friend group’s watch party or making a shared playlist for your family to listen to when they ask, “who is this Bad Bunny you speak of,” just know we’re rooting for you every step of the way.

Now that you have been sufficiently briefed on all the good things about el conejo malo, we hope you’ll continue your education elsewhere, like the dining hall, Sidechat, and Spotify. Go frolic and share the wealth of knowledge with those around you before it’s too late for them to buy into the fandom by Sunday. Do your community service!!
