Things that Could Start and End While You’re Still in that BerryLINE

Design by Victoria Chen

Berryline: aptly named and (maybe) worth the wait. Step onto Arrow Street on any given day, and be confronted with the population of a small municipality waiting for homemade mochi on their frozen yogurt. Even satellites are familiar with the BerryLine. You should only brave the Line when you have time to kill, because who knows what you could miss while you’re waiting? Flyby does! We have compiled a short, non-exhaustive list of events that could begin and end during your tenure in the BerryLine.

1. A Government Shutdown

Is Washington gridlocked again? Bipartisanship is worse than ever? That’ll probably take a while. No worries, just head over to Berryline and at least a couple of bills should be passed before you get to the register.

2. The Grade Cap

Harvard’s newest experiment is set to hit the streets in 2027, but hey, it could be short-lived. Why don’t you head for some ice cream in the meantime, and we’ll see how many Breaking: Crimson articles are published in your absence.

3. Someone’s Senior Thesis

If you’re a stressed senior wishing you could wake up, and your thesis deadline will have passed, I totally get it. Maybe grab a sweet treat to feel better, and see how things look from the other side. The sugar boost might just give you the energy to start writing that first chapter you forgot was due in December, not January…

4. Freshman Comp Season

Semester-long comp? Yikes. Why don’t we go get Berryline and talk about it? Let’s put it this way: you’ll probably know your decision before you pick out toppings. Consider this the one and only fun coffee chat you’ll go on during your time here!

5. Whatever will replace JFK St. Starbucks

Nothing but an unshakable commercial enterprise could outlast Harvard Square’s prices. If you’re open to suggestions, I think a Yogurtland would look great in that spot—ooh or maybe a Pinkberry! Better yet, a second Berryline location. To our beloved and overworked Berryline managers: let’s take note of the uptick in froyo demand and double that supply. And hire Laibson and Furman as consultants while you’re at it.

Needless to say: a lot can get done during that wait. Maybe it won’t be high-level administrative work, but it could be a reading or even a pset. Flyby recommends coming prepared to BerryLine, and our best advice would be to keep scrolling our website so that the time really flysby…
