CAPTAIN BRENNAN INDULGENT TO IGNORANT SINNERS

Forty-six automobiles, chiefly belonging to students of the University, were tagged by the Cambridge Police Department during the last two days with summonses requiring the owners to appear at the Police Court for infringement of parking laws.

Captain Michael J. Brennan, of the Cambridge Police Department, when interviewed yesterday declared that he had already discharged 36 cases with reprimands. He said that the intended to be similarly lenient with the remaining ten cases before him, but that he planned to exact the full fine of ten dollars for any future cases of parking law violations.

Captain Brennan believes that the majority of the students who received summonses were ignorant of the laws which they were breaking. He referred them to extracts from the state motor laws and Cambridge city ordinances, which are, in part, given below.

Regulations Relating to Motor Vehicles, Section 15: "Every vehicle, whether stationary or in motion on any public way shall have attached to it a light or lights which shall be so displayed as to be visible from the front and the rear during the period from one half hour after sunset to one half hour before sunrise."

Ordinance of the City of Cambridge: "Between 7 A. M. and 6 P.M. no vehicle shall be left standing in any part of Harvard Square, in Boylston Street or in Brattle Street east of Brattle Square for more than 20 minutes.

"No vehicle shall stop or stand within 20 feet of the intersections of Harvard Square and the following streets, namely: Brattle, Dunster, and Boylston Streets; or within 20 feet of the intersections of Massachusetts Avenue and the following streets, namely: Church and Holyoke Streets.
