Goldsmith Hot as Freshmen Swamp Carrier Nine, 22-6

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Freshman batters had a big day at Soldiers Field yesterday as they pounded out a 22 to 6 win over the U.S.S. Randolph in a seven-inning contest. Johnny Goldsmith led the hitting with a single, a double and a triple in three trips to the plate.

The deluge began in the first inning, when with two out and one on, Frank Kobusch blasted one down the right field line for three bases. Cliff Crosby drove him in as he reached on a wild throw, and he, too, strolled around to score as three successive Yardlings walked.

Walks Helpful

Five more walks, hits by Myles Huntington and Johnny Goldsmith, and an error by the pitcher brought in seven scores in the second. This ended the scoring only until the third, as the Freshmen combined three walks, an infield error, and a hit batsman with two singles, and a double by Goldsmith to counter five more times.

The Freshman lineup: 3b, Chase; cf, Glimp; 2b, Huntington; lf, Kobusch; c, Crosby, lb, Lionette; rf, Ayres; ss, Goldsmith; p, Gilbert.
