James H. Snowden, 11 '39, of New York City, won the John Osborne Sargent Prize of $200 for the best metrical translation of a lyrical poem of Horace, it was announced yesterday.
Robert W. Scott Jr. '38 of Boston, was awarded honorable mention for his translation, also the 35th ode of the first book.
The Sargent Prize, awarded annually, was first offered in 1886 by John Osborne Sargent, 1830, and was endowed in his memory in 1892 by his daughter, Georgiana W. Sargent.
