George B. Magoun of the freshman class was seriously injured last Monday at his father's country seat at Islip, L. I. His injuries were received by the unexpected explosion of a charge of powder which had been placed in a stump. The powder had been placed by a workman and the fuse lighted. Magoun, thinking the powder had failed to ignite had stooped over the stump with a lighted match for the purpose of lighting the fuse when the explosion took place. Magoun's face was the mark for the flying fragments while his head and arms were frightfully cut. He will probably recover from his injuries but will bear the marks for life.
