For some time it has been felt that the system of training tables as now in vogue here was far from satisfactory and a remedy has been sought for. Members of the athletic committee have interested themselves in the matter, and, aided by some of the 'varsity managers, have at last succeeded in finding a plan which promises well.

The new scheme proposed is that of a general training table, to the support of which the four university athletic teams will contribute at their different seasons of training. The matter has been under the charge of W. C. Forbes '92 and Neal Rantoul '92, who have been working on the details of the scheme all the year. About a week ago they got the matter so thoroughly into shape that it was thought ready to receive the formal action of the different athletic teams. Accordingly, a meeting was called of all the 'varsity captains and managers. They appointed the managers of the crew, base ball, foot ball and Mott Haven teams to take charge of the arrangements, and this committee chose J. L. Putnam '92 to act as their treasurer. The entire lower floor of Cranston's house on Mt. Auburn Street has been secured and will be divided into different dining rooms; a very competent steward and servants have been engaged. The eleven will board there during the fall and the crew, nine and Mott Haven team in the spring. The management of the affair will be under the control of the managers of the different teams. The smaller teams, such as the class crews and the freshman eleven and nine, will be taken in at the general training table on much the same principle as at any other boarding house. The 'varsity crew will go to the table this week, and the '94 crew about the first of April. Two other class crews will go there a little later, in addition to the Mott Haven team and the base ball nine.

The plan on which the boarding house will be run will allow private tables to eat there; and it is expected that a considerable number will take advantage of it. It is thought that this plan will secure better food and more satisfactory accommodations and service at a lower rate of expenditure than if the teams contracted separately with various boarding house keepers.
