The first fall baseball practice was held yesterday on Soldiers Field. Four of the eight squads, into which the men have been divided, played two five-inning games. Many changes were made in the positions, so that every man played at least part of the time. The purpose of the fall work is to give the captain a chance to discover promising new material, and to allow inexperienced men to develop their playing under good coaching.
The scores of the two games played were: Batteries--Hammond, Gallagher and Helliman; Burns and Souther. Batteries--Whiting, Alexander and Thayer: Cutter and Cunningham. The following men report dressed for practice today: 2 p. m.--J. Tuckerman, Fischel, H. Kernan, S. Adams, R. F. Jackson, Pettebone, Rowley, Newhall, R. B. Porter, Renn, Hastings, Hammond, Anthony, Jones, R. Hammond, Gordon, Galvin, Shepard, Bradbury, Stanton, Mead, Moore. 3.15 p. m.--Mahan, Wales, Davis, Swartz, Flint, Cunningham, K. Smith, Viaux, Cohen, Brett, Putnam, Tilden, Kittredge, Bassett, Clement, Rivers, Howland, Lowenthal, Vidand, Mead, Whiting, O'Riorden, Porter, E. L. Thayer. Any men, especially pitchers and catchers, who can play this fall are urged to come out. Those not reporting punctually may lose their opportunity to play.
